My interest is in the Internet of Things (IoT) & Wearable Technology. I am offering projects that are fully supported by a client in industry who will not only spend time with you to specify the requirements, but also be a mentor for you throughout the year, in addition to me as your UQ academic advisor. This will enable you to continue with the project beyond the course if you wish to increase your opportunities for employment or going into business yourself. Projects are offered under a new scheme called Super Project. Super Projects are completed by many students working in parallel on smaller aspects of the same project so that, even though your own project is completed by yourself, all projects as a whole will complement each other like pieces of a puzzle to form a larger (super) project. Projects for 2017 have been under the themes of Smart City/Smart Campus, Smart Sport and more and the theme for 2018 projects is SmartHome.
In an attempt to support most mobile and desktop devices with a minimum development and maintenance effort, all server applications are to be developed as a webapp using JavaScript (jQuery mobile), HTML5/CSS3 and PHP/mySQL. You will be given access to a UQ ITEE server, Git repository and a budget to purchase hardware and other parts of your choice required to complete your project. We will use ESP8266, ESP32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar to develop our initial hardware prototypes and design our own printed circuit boards (PCB) for the final product.
My Smart Home project is centered around the many devices you may find in a home of the near future. The scope is only limited by the creativity of the student team working on this super project.
An detailed description of all projects can be found here.At the completion of all projects we will have developed a smart home showcase initiative ready for display at an exhibition.
